Abstract

The Symbiotic Evolution of Telecom and Generative AI

This talk explores the mutual benefits between the telecom industry and generative AI, and the evolution of both worlds. The telecom sector provides the necessary infrastructure to support AI technologies, enabling more efficient AI operations through enhanced network capabilities like differentiated quality of service. In return, generative AI enhances telecom operations through applications such as predictive maintenance and intelligent traffic management, which improve service reliability and reduce operational costs. We will demonstrate this symbiotic relationship, highlighting the key innovations and challenges in integrating AI within telecom frameworks and continual advancements in both fields.

Bio

Elena Fersman is a Vice President, Head of Global AI Accelerator at Ericsson and Head of Ericsson Silicon Valley Site. She is responsible for a distributed team based in the USA, Sweden, India and Canada.

Elena is a docent and an adjunct professor in Cyber-Physical Systems specialized in Automation at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from Uppsala University, an MBA from St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and did a postdoc at the University Paris-Saclay. At Ericsson, she had various positions ranging from product management to research leadership.

Elena served on the Board of Directors of RISE Research Institutes of Sweden 2019-2022 and is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. Elena has co-authored over 50 patent families.
